Burke Culinary Club

Picture
Hello and welcome to Burke High School’s Culinary Club page. We believe that food is central to culture, identity, health, and life.

The purpose of our club is to provide an environment for students to socialize, be creative, learn cooking skills, learn business and workplace skills, and have fun. Our students not only prepare the food but enjoy the results and take satisfaction in a job well done.

Our mission statement: To cook, collaborate, and create in a fun, safe kitchen environment.

Students involved in our organization have numerous doors and opportunities open to them. They learn culinary specific skills that they can take with them to their new employer, and they build friendships and lifelong partnerships with their peers, their teacher, and others involved in the program.

This organization is also a great place to network. Students who want to pursue a career in culinary can utilize the resources that we offer that will aid them in turning their dreams into reality. Our culinary cooperative education program is designed to help students get their culinary career started. From competitions to fundraisers to advocacy and more, students who complete the program are ready to close that skills gap between high school and real life.

What do we do?
- Competition We compete in an annual culinary competition against schools from across the state
- Waffle Bar Our famous Waffle Bar is our weekly fundraising “restaurant.” Every Friday morning, students run the Waffle (and recently added Burrito) Bar for profit. The bar is open to all students and staff.
- Holiday Sales Students hold two holiday bake sales during school hours. The holidays change every year, but generally one in the Fall and one in Spring.
- Tower Garden Students learn gardening skills as they tend to our classroom’s Tower Garden. This garden holds peppers and various herbs used by classes throughout the year.
Who can join?
  • Our club is open to any student enrolled at Burke High School. No Experience Necessary! Students who have never learned any cooking skills will be taught the basics and will learn as they go with the guidance of our trained chef.
